The questions to ask, what wedding photography costs on Oʻahu, and the local photographers listed on Hawaii Vendors.

How to Choose an Oahu Wedding Photographer

Your wedding photographer is the one vendor whose work you’ll look at for the rest of your life, so choosing an Oʻahu wedding photographer deserves more than a scroll through Instagram. This guide covers how to narrow down a style, the questions to ask before you book, what photography costs on Oʻahu, and the Oʻahu wedding photographers listed on Hawaii Vendors.

Start with style, not price

Most wedding photography falls somewhere between three approaches:

  • Documentary: The photographer stays in the background and captures moments as they happen, with light direction during portraits.

  • Editorial: More guided and polished, with a magazine feel to the portraits.

  • Fine art: Soft, natural-light images that lean timeless and romantic.

Many photographers blend all three. Pick the one that feels most like you, shortlist three or four photographers whose portfolios match it, and only then compare packages. A cheaper photographer in the wrong style isn’t a bargain.

10 questions to ask before you book

  1. Can we see two or three complete galleries from weddings like ours?

  2. How many hours of coverage do you recommend for our timeline?

  3. Will you personally photograph our wedding, or someone from your team?

  4. Is a second shooter included, and do we need one?

  5. What happens if it rains?

  6. How many edited images should we expect, and when will we get them?

  7. Do we receive a print release?

  8. Do you offer video, or can you recommend a videographer you work well with?

  9. Have you photographed at our venue, and does the venue have photography rules?

  10. What’s the deposit, and what happens if our date moves?

How much does a wedding photographer cost on Oʻahu?

Pricing depends on coverage hours, the size of the team, and add-ons like video or albums. Among the photographers listed on Hawaii Vendors:

  • Short sessions and elopements start around $650–$750 for an hour or two of coverage.

  • Venue-specific packages exist too. Tone Photography Studio, for example, lists a two-hour Kualoa Ranch photo and coordination package at $2,000 (its 2027 rate).

  • Full-day coverage with a team typically runs from about $5,500. Jenna Lee Pictures notes that its couples usually invest $6,000–$12,000+ once video and extra events are included.

Treat these as ballparks. The only way to get a real number is to share your date, guest count, and timeline, which you can do with several photographers at once through Get Quotes.

Oʻahu light, weather, and timing tips

  • Plan portraits for golden hour. The hour before sunset is the most flattering light on the island. Ask your photographer to help set your ceremony time around it.

  • Expect passing showers. Quick rain is common, especially on the windward side, and experienced local photographers work with it. Several say some of their favorite images were made in the rain.

  • Account for travel time. If your getting-ready location, ceremony, and reception are in different places, build drive time into your coverage hours.

The Art of Storytelling When I don't have a camera in my hand, you will probably find me in the water surfing, hiking the mountains, or at home with my fam. I'm married to my amazing wife Jacquie and father to my incredibly talented 7-year-old daughter Valentina. I also have a lazy bones dog named Thunder, the English Mastiff, who prefers to sleep all day and our two Great Danes pups, Hoku and Beau, who keep each other well entertained. Yes, slightly obsessed with big dogs.

My name is Michele, I was born in Brazil and lived many years in Germany; I'd like to say that I'm a "Germanbraz Girl". I discovered my passion for photography at a young age. I started to work professionally when Hawaii became my home over a little over decade ago. Since then, I have completed many courses, won awards, got publish internationally and when I'm not behind the camera, I love spending time with my husband and our Little Boy, they are my rock and everything. "I believe what I do is important, I believe that family and loved ones change and grow too fast, I believe in marriage, in love and friendship, I believe that every moment needs to be registered so they won't be forgotten." "A picture is not only a picture but an eternal memory".

Wherever your love takes you I am a fun loving, adventurous, organically grown, photographer originally from Montana. I believe that family and finding connection are some of the most important things in life. The pursuit of capturing those connections is the reason I became a photographer. And what an honor it is to be there for the big moments in people’s lives: engagements, weddings, babies, and beyond. What defines my method (and frankly what sets me apart) is my ability to put people at ease. It's the key to getting natural, radiant photos that you will love. I believe creativity is in endless supply and I am inspired every day by something new; the natural world, my adorable kiddos, and my awesome clients, to name a few.

How to compare your shortlist

Once you have two or three favorites, send each the same details: your date, venue, guest count, and the hours you think you need. Compare what’s included, not just the headline price. Then book a short call. How comfortable you feel talking to them is a good preview of how you’ll feel in front of their camera.

You can browse every Hawaii wedding photographer on Hawaii Vendors, or read our guide to getting a Hawaii marriage license if you’re still working through the legal side.
